Therapy with Adolescents.
Adolescents tend to deal with a tremendous amount of pressure from their school obligations, as well as from figuring out who they are in the world, all while transitioning into adulthood. Socially, adolescents are especially looking to feel a sense of belonging, and in this day and age, social media platforms have facilitated being able to connect with a wide range of individuals. However, the increased demand to be liked and have followers can create unrealistic expectations to present oneself as perfect, and to meet ideals that do not honor the uniqueness and diversity of adolescents of color. This can leave adolescents dealing with high levels of anxiety, depression, body image and identity issues.
I work collaboratively with parents to be able to support their teen in safely navigating these social pressures. I help maneuver the fine balance between maintaining the adolescent’s privacy and involving the caregivers throughout treatment as a means of strengthening the welfare and support system of the young person.
